About E8

E8

Dalston is within the London Borough of Hackney and is one of the most vibrant and diverse places you could hope to find. It has London’s largest concentration of artists and with more than 100 different languages spoken there’s a thriving cultural mix and a real sense of community. Dalston’s a short stone’s throw from the City and a bus ride to all the facilities and amenities of the West End. A third of the borough is made up of parks and open spaces, making it one of the greenest areas in the capital and with the transport improvements that are underway, more and more people are to moving to Hackney.

Architecturally, Dalston is principally a mixture of Edwardian and Victoria terraced houses.  Much of the 20th century social housing – particularly the area’s tower blocks – has been demolished to make way for smart new developments aimed at the area’s burgeoning population of young professionals.  Former warehouses have been transformed into loft apartments and there is a predominance of affordable 1 bedroom and two bedroom flats.

Transport:

Hackney has been voted one of the top 10 boroughs in the UK for transport connections.  Liverpool Street and the City are only 10 minutes from the centre of Hackney by train.  Dalston Kingsland station on the London Overground network has frequent fast trains to Stratford (15 minutes). Dalston Junction station opened in May 2010 and runs to New Cross/Crystal Palace and West Croydon via The City with Shoreditch High Street station just five minutes walk from Liverpool Street and Bishopsgate. Regular bus services abound; there are 11 routes within short walking distance, 4 of which operate 24 hours a day, providing regular services to the centre of the City, Liverpool Street and London Bridge.

In 2005 Hackney was awarded the borough with ‘Most Improved Transport’ and recognised as having London’s best bus network. In 2006 Transport for London also named Hackney as London’s ‘Best Bike Borough’.
