About the Area:

W2 covers a wide area of West London, generally known as Paddington; but also including areas of Bayswater, Hyde Park, Westbourne Green, Little Venice and Westbourne Green.  The majority of W2 falls under Westminster City Council’s authority.

The area offers a huge range of interesting sights and activities and boasts a large number of green spaces.  Some of the more impressive garden squares in W2 include: Hyde Park Gardens, Norfolk Square Gardens, Oxford Square Gardens, Porchester Square Gardens, Princes Square Gardens, Talbot Square Gardens, Sussex Gardens and Leicester Square Gardens.  These spaces provide a calm oasis in an otherwise busy and noisy area of London.  Many of these squares are surrounded by impressive, large properties.

‘Little Venice’ describes the area surrounding where the Grand Union Canal meets the Regent’s Canal.  This beautiful area offers barge tours along the waterways, and has a number of cafes, pubs and restaurants nearby, making it a popular tourist destination.  The Canal Café Theatre on the Grand Union Canal is a popular London fringe theatre showing comedy throughout the week.  Unsurprisingly, Little Venice has become a highly desired location in which to live, with many 17th century white stucco properties nearby.

Other places of interest in W2 include Paddington Library (which also hosts art exhibitions), which is on Porchester Road.  This library consists of two impressive buildings, one of which is dedicated solely to children’s books.  The Porchester Centre on Queensway provides fitness facilities to the general public.  Facilities include a gymnasium, a spa, a swimming pool and a sports hall.

W2 is also well placed for shopping, eating out and entertainment.  Whiteleys Shopping Centre on Queensway is well worth a visit, as it is the largest shopping centre in Central London and has a huge range of facilities all under one roof, including bowling lanes and a multiplex cinema.

Transport:

W2 is superbly connected.  Paddington station has mainline services fromFirst Great Western and Chiltern Trains, as well as the Heathrow Express service, direct to the airport.  The W2 postcode boasts six tube stations (Paddington, Bayswater, Royal Oak, Lancaster Gate, Queensway and Edgeware Road) and is served by no less than five different underground lines (Circle, District, Bakerloo, Hammersmith & City and the Central Lines).  Paddington will also feature a Crossrail station when the east-west rail service opens in 2017.
