Barrow boys have been welcoming shoppers to Broadway Market in Hackney since the 1890s, selling everything from bacon to beans.

Revived in 2004 by volunteers from the Broadway Market Traders’ and Residents’ Association the market has grown beyond expectations and is now described as the most successful community market in London.

Good food is at the heart of the Saturday market on Broadway. Surveys show more than 90 percent of customers come here to do their weekly shopping: fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, bread and cakes, and far more.

The market is also a hotspot in the fashion hothouse that is East London. It’s a living, working and meeting place for some of the country’s best young designers. Fashionistas come to snap up hats, shoes and frocks.
